Find out how you can watch our encrypted Rugby Union coverage
International Rugby Union is coming exclusively to ABC Asia Pacific from
February 2006!
We are showing all the international competitions
featuring Australia, New Zealand and South Africa including the Super 14s, the
Bledisloe Cup and the Tri- Nations series.
These games will be broadcast
to the Asia Pacific region via an encrypted signal. We are using different
encryption methods for PAS-8 and PAS-2 viewers.
Viewers receiving us
Free to Air via PAS-8 (Asia, PNG & Guam) If you are receiving us via
PAS-8 on your own satellite equipment you will need to obtain one of our free
Smart Cards to watch these games. Viewers watching us via a cable or satellite
operator do not need to register for a Smart Card.
Registering for your
free Smart Card is easy. Just go to the register now link on this
page.
Viewers receiving us Free to Air via PAS-2 (Pacific) If
you are receiving us via PAS-2 you will need to check you have the correct

Encryption
Guide
Read our Q and A's to learn how to watch our encrypted programs in your
location.
Note: the way you access our encrypted programming depends on
whether you receive ABC Asia Pacific via the Pas-2 or Pas-8 satellite.
Q: Why are you encrypting
programs?
A: Under the terms of our agreement with SANZAR, we must
encrypt all Rugby Union games to prevent splliage into territories where we do
not have the rights e.g. Australia. However, the rest of ABC Asia Pacific
remains Free to Air.
We are supplying and sending Smart Cards for
decrypting the Rugby signal free of charge. Q: What programs are you encrypting?
A: We will be encrypting
only the Rugby Union and potentially some Live AFL games when the season
begins. Q: Do I need a new decoder box?
A: If you are watching ABC
Asia Pacific via Pas-2 and have a Scientific Atlanta decoder box, you can use
your existing system to watch our encrypted programming.
However we
need some information about your box so that we can authorise your
viewing.
A: Insert the card
into your digital decoder box. The slot will usually be at the front of the
box.
You don't need to remove the Smart Card, you can just leave it in
the decoder box and forget about it! Q: What if my digital decoder box doesn't have a slot for the
card?
A: You may need to upgrade your box if there is no slot. We
are using the Irdeto 2 encryption system, which works with the majority of
digital decoder boxes available today. Make sure that you check with your
retailer that any new box you purchase is compatible with Irdeto.
In
some cases, you may be able to buy an "expansion slot" or "conditional access
module" for your existing box, which is cheaper than upgrading. Q: What happens if I don't get a Smart Card?
A: Viewers who
watch us via their own direct to home satellite equipment (including hotels and
SMATV viewers) are required to get a Smart Card to see our encrypted
programs.
If you don't get a card then there will be no picture on the
service during an encrypted program. We do not insert replacement programming
for viewers without a Smart Card.
Not all of our programming is
encrypted however and the service will resume once the encrypted program has
concluded.
If you are a Free to Air PAS-2
viewer in the Pacific, register your decoder here.
PAS-2
(Pacific) Information

in the Pacific. This means that you will not need a Smart Card to view
the Rugby Union if you are receiving us Free to Air via PAS-2. Instead you
need to choose one of the options below so that you can watch our encrypted
programs.
